Past, Present & Future Exhibition
In Luminos, I sought to translate the ancient legend of Nüwa Mending the Sky into a modern physical format using contemporary art language. Inspired by the weathered grandeur and pigment richness of Dunhuang murals, I constructed a visual balance between cosmic chaos and divine order.
This piece represents a dialogue between digital illustration and traditional craftsmanship. After rendering the artwork digitally, I printed it onto custom fabric and spent two months physically layering materials over it. I used graphite sticks to give the surface a stone-like tactile weight, applied gold leaf to catch ambient light and emphasize the mythic luminescence, and hand-stitched the borders to construct a traditional hanging scroll.
Medium: Mixed-media vertical scroll – illustration on custom fabric, gold leaf, graphite sticks, hand-stitched silk borders, and solid wood scroll rods.

Gold Leaf Detailing
Hand-applied gold leaf highlights the sacred aureole and cosmic light rays, creating a sense of shimmer dynamic.

Graphite & Texture
Layered graphite stick accents bring a tactile, mineral texture to the fabric, echoing the weathered patina of ancient Dunhuang murals.

Craftsmanship & Mounting
Hand-stitched silk fabric borders and weighted wooden rods anchor the digital print back into the physical traditions of East Asian scroll making.
